At the very end of episode 5, we see him standing on Glover's ship to meet Nakaiya. In episode 6 they talk, and while he seems hostile to Nakaiya at first, he is invited to see Nakaiya's cave where the Head is being manipulated by Hata Meifuu.
Despite this he later ends up shooting one of the posessed beings Nakaiya sent to kill the Troupe - either out of his own conviction or because Nakaiya asked him to, we don't know.
By this time he is MIA around Katsu, who doesn't seem to care...

It appears that Kanna has gone onto Nakaiya's side. (For now at least.)
We see him hanging around more with Nakaiya and Glover... and near the end of the episode, by request of Nakaiya he breaks into the Satsuma compound where his ex-'master' Katsu has finally completed hard-earned negotiations with Saigou Takamori.
He holds them at gunpoint and thus allows for the entry of Nakaiya and the Head.

Kanna finally has a battle with Akizuki. However, after quite some time of creative fighting, Akizuki shakes him off under the cover of smoke. Furthermore we see that Kanna's eye gets blurred for a short while. He also sees Kakunojou in her normal appearance for the first time and is shocked by her similarity to his mother.
Also, at the end, when Kakunojou is about to drive her sword into Nakaiya, Kanna shoots her sword away, saying "Don't think badly of me; I'm only doing what I was paid to do."
