Katsu cont.
Spoilers for episode 7-10. --- 7 Katsu, spurred on by the destruction partially brought about by Parkes' heavy-handedness in episode 6, meets up with Saigou Takamori to discuss Edo. He puts his skills as a negotiator to work and is about to reach the conclusion of peace, when first of all, Kanna Sakyounosuke - his ex-bodyguard - comes in and holds him and Saigou at gunpoint. Then, Nakaiya Juubee comes in and exerts the influence of the Conqueror's Head on Saigo and Katsu, and their eyes glow red as they begin to become hostile to each other. --- 8 Katsu and Saigou begin to fight due to the Head brought by Nakaiya. However, Soutetsu transfers the Head to his possession, Nakaiya is rendered powerless, and the influence wears off. Katsu and Saigou return to normal, realise that they were doing stupid things, and make up the next day after sealing the deal to not make Edo a battlefield. Thus, the same conclusion is reached as in history. --- 9 It is quite some time later. At Ueno we see Katsu standing by as the Tokugawa establishment moves from Mito domain into Kan'ei Temple. When it reaches almost a month after the previous episode (i.e. 14-15 May 1868 - lunar), war at Ueno seems inevitable and Katsu sighs to Shinmon at how it seems like his efforts at reducing the bloodshed are all in vein. --- 10 Katsu can't stop the war from going on. Indeed, he loses Masumitsu Kyuunosuke to the battle... In other news, he also learns of Enomoto Takeaki - a navy commander leading the last of the Tokugawa resistance to the north - starting something that worries him... Return to Katsu. |
