Letter Cont.
Spoilers from episodes 5 to 8. There is a comparison of events in real life and history at the bottom, covering episodes 1-8. ------- 5 In episode five, Yamaoka and Masumitsu return to Yokohama to tell Katsu that Saigou’s forces are divided as to whether they should proceed through alternative routes, or stay where they are. They suggest trying negotiation again. Later, Yamaoka identifies Soutetsu as the one who stole the letter. Katsu now knows that the person who stole the letter is the troupe's playwright. -------- 6 In episode six, Katsu's determination is renewed after chaos happens at Yokohama, because he doesn't want to see the same happen to Edo. So he sends Yamaoka and Masumitsu to make another attempt to reach Saigou. Assumedly, this is congruent with the letter that was sent in real life, for it's roughly a month after the destruction at Yokohama. On the way they bump into the Imperial Forces headed by Prince Arisugawa on the way, with Yamaoka yelling his way through. Will they be successful? -------- 7 Well, by episode seven, it seems like they are, because one month later, Katsu and Saigo are in a Satsuma residence and it seems like they've finally decided not to make Edo a battlefield - just like in real life. ... Except that Kanna jumps in holding Katsu and Saigo at gunpoint, and Nakaiya pops in with the Head. The Head causes Katsu and Saigo to become hostile to each other as their eyes glow red with evil... bummer. -------- 8 Katsu and Saigo start fighting each other at the Satsuma residence while Yamaoka is left helpless thanks to Nakaiya keeping him restrained. However, Soutetsu transfers the Head to his control and Nakaiya is killed. Katsu and Saigo regain their sanity, and knowing that was all a bunch of screwed up shit, patch up immediately, and the conclusion is the same after all - Edo is saved from war. Yay. Conclusion: peace (But hey, there's other stuff coming up - we've still got 18 more episodes to go, y'know...) Comparison of History and anime events Follows the lunar calendar, OK?! The end.
